Jon is my name, and software development is my game.  Well, that and beer-enabled sports such as softball and bowling.  But, I get paid to create software, which is fortunate because I enjoy it enough to want to do it for fun.  I have been a professional developer since 1999, working mostly with Microsoft technologies such as C#, asp.net, and SQL Server.  I've dabbled in other languages and frameworks, but .NET development remains my main squeeze (programmatically speaking).  I have maintained a web presence since 1996, when I developed my first website as a student at Miami University.  Luckily my design skills have evolved greatly since then, my earlier websites looked like they were designed by drunken monkeys on crack.

I currently live in scenic southwestern Ohio with my wife, baby daughter, and dog. I work for a fantastic company called dunnhumby, where I am a senior software developer on the product development team.  Other than .NET and SQL Server, I get to play around with Adobe Flex on occasion.  Most of my free time is spent with my family, but I occasionally find time to terrorize the woods while hiking, crash down a snowy hill while "skiing", and of course play sports like the aforementioned softball and bowling.

One of my passions is digital photography.  I have played around with digital photography since 1999, when I got my first digital camera - a Kodak DC220. In May, 2004, I made a huge upgrade and bought a Nikon D70. The quality improvement is evident as you compare some of the older pictures with the newer pictures from 2004 and after. I won't lie and say that I'm a good photographer, but at least with a quality D-SLR and lenses I can take some halfway decent shots.  You can see many of my pictures on my Flickr photostream.  Since the birth of my daughter I have also starting messing around with video. My camera of choice is the Canon Vixia HF200, and I chose Vimeo to host my videos.

So what's this site all about?  I consider it a "portal" to me - home of my blog, media, projects, and professional accomplishments.  I've had a blog since early 2004 when I decided "what the hell" and started posting random tidbits of my life, technology,  the news, etc.  Over the last few years most of my posts have been on home technology and sports, but the randomizer still kicks in from time to time.  You just never know what I'm going to post, but you're not alone - I never know, either.  You can reach me via the contact form if you so desire, or of course you can follow my trails on various social networking sites on the intertubes.
