Chalk another one up to political correctness run amok. Yet another group is offended by a holiday or a theme in the holiday. It seems we can't have any holidays without some overly sensitive special interest group being offended. “Looking at it through the specific prism of Halloween, stigma is one of the main barriers to people getting help when they need it." What!? People don't get help for their mental illness because of Halloween portrayal of whack-jobs? Good grief! Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! No, don't be a fool - the correct answer is StigmaBusters! They can't help you rid your house of ghosts or the undead, but they certainly can "shift attitudes about mental illness in popular culture". That's great, just what we needed! Maybe I'm being overly harsh here, but I keep seeing more and more of this crap in the news. Our traditions are being assailed just so a few people are no longer offended. A few weeks ago there were stories of schools banning tag and dodgeball (staples of my youth) to protect little Johnny from getting a scraped knee or having his feelings hurt from being picked last in dodgeball. Now, this group wants us to be careful about portraying the mentally ill negatively while celebrating Halloween. Kudos to King's Island for keeping two of their attractions - “The Asylum” and “PsychoPath". I have never gone to Fear Fest, but I do hope they don't allow this group to influence the future renditions of the Halloween themes.
