Riverfest 2004
After a one year hiatus, I went to Riverfest with PJ, his brother, and a few of their friends. It was one of the better experiences I have had there, and I am glad I went. One thing that really stood out about this year was the amount of political stickers that were being passed out. It seemed that the Kerry campaign had a few more volunteers than Bush, but Bush did have his fair share. Of course there were those who were wearing stickers of both candidates (no, Florida - you can't vote for both!). However, one of the more interesting things I saw was a couple of goth-looking kids who were wearing a bunch of Bush stickers. Perhaps it was in jest, or perhaps Bush can count on having the goth vote. He will be happy to hear that. Naturally, there were a fair amount of hotties to check out, and I did like seeing both candidates have these beautiful babes supporting them. When it comes to good looking women, I pay no attention to political affiliation :-)
Every year, WEBN (the main sponsor of the event), has a countdown of 400 songs that are voted "best 400 songs of all time". Naturally, that is a dubious and highly subjective list - but it is a way to get the listeners involved since they all submit their top ten lists. Anyway, the usual songs did make the playlist, but the top 10 was a little more different than usual. I think this year had a first-timer at #1 - Paranoid by Black Sabbath. I love the song, but I wouldn't put at it #1. It isn't even my favorite Sabbath song. At least it wasn't AC/DC though, too many people in Cincy think way too highly of that band.
I find it hard to say whether one year's fireworks are ever better than another's, however this year's were definitely unique. One of the neatest displays was the ones that exploded into the letters W, E, B, and N. You can't find that in any old fireworks display. There were a few other really cool and unique displays as well, so I think I can safely say this fireworks show is a little more impressive than the one I put on at the annual 4th of July party at Ray's place.
